Kuldīga is called the “capital” of Kurzeme. There are many places of interest that draw in tourists. Kuldīga is the only place in Latvia where is united wooden houses from 18. And 19. Century.
Alekshupite in Kuldīga is also very interesting. Houses are built very close to it. If Alekshupite would be wider and deeper then it will be like Venice only in Latvia.
In Kuldīga there are two outstanding waterfalls: The widest in Europe – Venta’s rapid and The highest in Latvia I n Alekshupite.
Venta’ s rapid



In summer it is 110 m and 150 m wide and it is 2 m high. The best viewpoint is on the left bank opposite the highest place of waterfall. If you want to swim then you could do that in the right side of river.


Alekshupite’ s waterfall


It is 4,15 m high, 8 m wide. Above waterfall there is a sluice for water mill. The best view of waterfall is from the left bank down the river.
Near this waterfall is mills. People think that the old water mill has been the tower of a palace. In 14. century there was made gunpowder. The legend tells that the palace has been connected with tower (water mill) by underground path. Now they are destroyed.
